The photographic project Janja by Mitar Simikić traces a river in northeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina that for centuries shaped the lives of communities and lands along its banks. Once a lifeline – a place of play, sustenance, and gathering – Janja has undergone profound transformations in recent decades. With the construction of the Ugljevik power plant, its flow was redirected, ecosystems declined, and its waters became marked by pollution and loss.
The exhibition is set in front of Hotel Bohinj, where the encounter between urban architecture and the river’s natural narrative opens a space to reflect on how human interventions alter our relationship with water, nature, and the future.
